ตามที่ปรากฏรายงานข่าวว่า รัฐบาลทหารพม่าได้ทำการประหารชีวิตนักโทษการเมืองและนักเคลื่อนไหวเพื่อประชาธิปไตยชาวพม่า ที่เกิดขึ้นเร็วๆ นี้ แม้ได้มีการคัดค้านอย่างรุนแรงจากประชาคมโลก รวมถึงองค์กรภาคประชาสังคมระหว่างประเทศ ที่ได้ออกแถลงการณ์เรียกร้องให้รัฐทหารพม่ายุติการประหารชีวิตนักโทษทางการเมือง ก่อนหน้านี้ (อ่านแถลงการณ์เรียกร้องให้รัฐทหารพม่า ยุติการประหารชีวิตนักโทษทางการเมือง)
สถาบันปรีดี พนมยงค์ ได้ติดตามสถานการณ์ในพม่ามาโดยตลอด ขอประณามการกระทำอันโหดร้ายของรัฐบาลทหารพม่าในครั้งนี้ ซึ่งเป็นการกระทำที่ขัดต่อหลักสิทธิมนุษยชนอย่างร้ายแรง ทั้งที่ผู้ต้องหาควรได้รับสิทธิในการพิจารณาคดีอย่างเปิดเผยและเป็นธรรม รวมถึงการได้รับการประกันตัวซึ่งเป็นสิทธิเสรีภาพขั้นพื้นฐานตามหลักกฎหมายสากล การกระทำดังกล่าวยิ่งเป็นการตอกลิ่มความขัดแย้งและแบ่งแยกประเทศพม่าออกจากประชาคมโลก
เราขอเรียกร้องอีกครั้ง ให้รัฐบาลทหารพม่าแก้ไขสถานการณ์อย่างสันติ โดยดำเนินการอย่างเป็นรูปธรรมเพื่อ (1) หยุดความรุนแรงทันที (2) ปล่อยตัวผู้ถูกคุมขัง (3) คืนความเป็นธรรมให้แก่ผู้สูญเสีย และ (4) ดำเนินการตาม “ฉันทามติ 5 ข้อ” ของอาเซียนอย่างจริงจัง
สถาบันปรีดีฯ ขอแสดงความเสียใจไปยังครอบครัวผู้สูญเสีย และขอส่งกำลังใจให้พี่น้องประชาชนชาวพม่าในการต่อสู้เพื่อความเป็นธรรมและฟื้นฟูระบอบประชาธิปไตยในพม่าให้กลับมาเข้มแข็งโดยเร็ว

Statement on the Execution of Political Prisoners in Myanmar
According to recent news reports the military government of Myanmar has executed Myanmar political prisoners and activists seeking to restore democracy to the people of Myanmar. This has been done despite strong condemnations from the world community, including from international people’s organizations which had demanded time and again that the military state of Myanmar refrain from executing political prisoners.
The Pridi Banomyong Institute has closely followed the events in Myanmar and hereby condemns in strongest terms the brutal and cruel acts of the military government of Myanmar which are in blatant violation of the most fundamental principles of human rights. It goes without saying that the accused has the right to a public and fair trial, including among others, the right to be bailed out as these rights as they belong to universal freedoms in accordance with the general principles of law under internationally accepted standards. These brutal and cruel acts can only contribute to the deepening of the existing conflict and division between Myanmar and the world community as a whole.
We repeatedly demand that the military government of Myanmar resolve the situation peacefully and take the following concrete steps in order to 1. Stop immediately the ongoing violence 2. Release those who are in custody 3. Restore justice to the damaged parties 4. Proceed strictly according to the 5-point consensus of ASEAN.
The Pridi Banomyong Institute wishes to take this opportunity to express its deepest condolences to the bereaved families of the victims while at the same time rendering it full support to the brothers and sisters of the people of Myanmar in their just and patriotic struggle for a speedy return to democracy.
